What we need to quote hazmat freight
Hazmat cannot be quoted from a weight and a postal code alone. To price and plan the move correctly we need three things up front: the hazard class, the UN number, and the proper shipping name of the commodity.
Those details determine which carriers can legally accept the load, what placarding and documentation are required, and whether the freight can travel with other goods. Having them ready when you call turns a multi-day back-and-forth into a same-day quote.
Certified carriers and correct documentation
We place dangerous goods only with carriers whose drivers hold current Transportation of Dangerous Goods training and whose equipment is appropriate to the hazard class. Shipping documents, placards and emergency response information have to match the load exactly — a paperwork mismatch is one of the most common reasons a hazmat shipment gets held.
As the shipper, the classification and packaging of your goods remain your responsibility. Our role is to make sure the freight is placed with a carrier equipped to move it and that the transport documentation is correct before the truck rolls.
LTL, truckload and cross-border
Dangerous goods move as both LTL and full truckload depending on volume and compatibility. Some classes cannot be co-loaded with other freight at all, which pushes the shipment toward a dedicated truckload. Cross-border hazmat adds customs and border requirements that we will walk you through before booking.

What information do you need before quoting?
The hazard class, the UN number, and the proper shipping name of the commodity, along with the usual weight, dimensions and lane details. Without the first three we cannot confirm which carriers are able to accept the freight.
Can dangerous goods ship LTL?
Often yes, but it depends on the class. Certain commodities cannot be co-loaded with other freight and must move on a dedicated truck. We will confirm which applies to your shipment once we have the UN number and class.
Who is responsible for classifying and packaging the goods?
The shipper is. Classification, packaging, labelling and marking are your legal obligations under TDG regulations. We arrange compliant transport and verify that the documentation matches the load, but we cannot classify the commodity on your behalf.
